"We've Come This Far By Faith"

Virtual Choir Submissions

The "We've Come This Far By Faith" Virtual Choir will be presented during our Solidarity Sunday Worship on August 9, 2020.

The Call for Solidarity with Conference 6 of the Southeast Michigan Synod is a response to the ways in which COVID19 has affected people of color and those living in poor communities. As a way of acknowledging the disparities of communities of the Southeast Michigan Synod, congregations of Detroit are inviting others to stand alongside them in a show of solidarity. For more information on the Call for Solidarity with Conference 6 of the Southeast Michigan Synod, click here.

Virtual Choir Submission Instructions

Read on for instructions and note that all submissions are due by July 31st at 5 pm.

Hello! Welcome to the “We’ve Come This Far By Faith” virtual choir.

I am so happy you are here and I am glad you are going to be a part of this musical experience!

My name is Sarah Altenburg. I’m the Minister of Music at Trinity Lutheran in Ann Arbor. I am available by phone or email with any questions you may have through this process. My contact information is: saltenburg@trinityaa.org and 734-780-0770. Texting and calling both work great.

The whole process is quite simple. Here is what you are going to do.

The Google Drive contains practice tracks for each part and the accompaniment track with metronome and without. Please use the metronome option if possible. This just helps us stay together even more. Please practice your voice part and get comfortable with it before recording.

To record, you will listen to the recording of your choice through headphones. The part enhanced and accompaniment tracks line up, so it's up to you. You will need to do a video recording of yourself singing the song. It is really important that it is only your voice on the recording. This makes my editing work easier and really improves sound quality.

Record yourself singing the song. You may have to do a few takes to get the one you are happy with. Please know, it is okay to make a mistake here and there. Obviously, just like in live performance, the more accurate you can be, the better. But, please do not stress about a missed note. (The video can be portrait or landscape, I will end up cropping it anyway.)

Upload your video. You can either email it to me, text it to me, or you can upload it into the Google Drive folder titled, “Participant Videos.” Make sure you do so no later than 5 pm on July 31st!!
